1. [Hanwha Defense Affiliates] Participated in DefExpo, India’s Largest Defense Exhibition

DefExpo, which has its 11th anniversary this year, is the largest defense exhibition in India, with 1,000 companies from over 70 countries participating.

Hanwha’s defense affiliates, Hanwha Corporation, Hanwha Defense, and Hanwha Systems, participated in the largest scale among Korean companies to target India and Southwest Asia.

Hanwha’s defense affiliates participated in the international defense exhibition ’DefExpo 2020’, held in Lucknow, India, and opened an integrated booth of 250 square meters to introduce the latest ground weapon systems and advanced defense electronics products for the Indian market.

We hope that Hanwha’s defense business will expand globally by actively targeting the Indian defense market, which is expected to grow rapidly.

LIFEPLUS has gained worldwide recognition not only in finance but also in design!

The main product that Hanwha Precision Machinery exhibited at this IPC APEX was the HM520, a high-speed chip mounter.

1. [Hanwha Group] Hosted the final round of Hanwha Science Challenge 2019

Hanwha Science Challenge 2019, a venue for the scientific geniuses to consider the future of mankind, has hosted the final round of the six-month competition.

Hanwha Science Challenge is the best future science and technology talent exploration project in Korea hosted by the Group. The final round of 2019 was held at Hanwha HRD Center from August 20 to 22.

This year marks the ninth time for the competition, and 858 high school students participated in the event, with a total of 429 teams challenging for the future Nobel Prize in science. Under the theme "Saving the Earth," they showed off their creative ideas to save the Earth in line with the themes of energy, bio, climate change and water.

In the midst of heated competition, the honor of the grand prize was won by a team of Lee Ji-woong and Lee In-woo of Chungbuk Science High School. They was honored for their work on developing of starch glue and cellulose-based clothing coatings to reduce the amount of micro plastic.

Hanwha Science Challenge 2019 was like a festival where all participants worked together to achieve the same dream and competed in good faith. We look forward to new challenges and growth of scientific geniuses trying to save the Earth in the future.

2. [Hanwha Engineering & Construction] Launched a new housing brand, FORENA

Hanwha Engineering & Construction has launched a new housing brand, FORENA. FORENA which means "connection" in Swedish, represents the will of Hanwha Engineering & Construction to create a new residential culture through ‘The connection of people and space’.

With this brand development, Hanwha Engineering & Construction has established a brand system for 'High End-Galleria' and 'Premium–FORENA'.

FORENA is an integrated brand of apartments, residential and commercial complexes, and studio apartments, which will replace the existing brands of Dream & Green and Obelisk. Through this process, Hanwha Engineering & Construction is expected to strengthen its brand status by expanding the frequency of sales and exposure in the Seoul-based areas.

Hanwha Engineering & Construction has introduced new residential changes, including product and design concepts, in 'FORENA'. 3. [Hanwha Systems] Joined forces with Korean Air and Raytheon

Hanwha System, Korean Air, and Raytheon have joined forces to enhance the fighter maneuverability program of the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system for aircraft.

The Identification Friend or Foe system for aircraft (IFF) is a device that is mounted on aircraft, warship, air defense weapons, etc. to distinguish between enemies and allies, to prevent accidental attacks between our allies.

On August 12, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) signed a contract with Hanwha Systems regarding a 550 billion won project to upgrade to the latest version “Mode 5’’, which is the IFF system for aircraft equipment for 17 types of aircraft.

For IFF's more successful performance improvement project, Hanwha Systems will carry out domestic production of IFF Mode 5 with security and stability along with Korean Air and Raytheon. We look forward to seeing Hanwha Systems become a global aerospace electronics company in the future!

1. [Hanwha Aerospace] Participated in the Paris Air Show 2019

The Paris Air Show in France is an international aerospace exhibition, one of the world’s three largest air shows, along with the UK Farnborough Air Show and the Singapore Air Show. Hanwha Aerospace participated in the Paris Air Show 2019 at Le Bourget Airport in northeastern Paris to showcase its outstanding technology.

The show had attracted about 500,000 visitors from over 150 countries and boasted its status as the world's largest air show, with deals valued at 140 billion dollars.

In particular, Hanwha Aerospace agreed to actively cooperate in expanding its global business and exports by holding negotiations with top executives of GE, Pratt & Whitney, and Rolls-Royce, the world's top three aircraft engine makers.

Based on its excellent domestic aircraft engine parts and aviation technology, Hanwha Aerospace plans to target the global aviation market by speeding up its export of aircraft engine parts.

2. [Hanwha Q CELLS] Held a launching ceremony of the sports team for the disabled

Hanwha Q CELLS held a ceremony in Cheongju, South Korea, to create the largest sports team in Korea for the disabled. The team is composed of 30 people in seven sports, including soccer for the intellectually disabled, soccer for the blind, swimming, weightlifting, etc. Let's go to the launching ceremony together!

The disabled sports team was founded by Hanwha Q CELLS for the second time since the Hanwha Q CELLS Golf Team was established in January last year. It is the largest sports team for the disabled in Chungbuk Province, with 30 athletes in seven sports, including shooting and swimming. 3. [Hanwha Defense] Held a solar power plant completion ceremony

These days, environmental issues are emerging as a major social issue and environmental management is arising as a social responsibility for businesses and a key component for successful organizations.

Hanwha Defense held a solar power plant completion ceremony at Changwon Plant2 to become an eco-friendly company.

With the completion of the solar power plant, Hanwha Defense installed 2,592 solar modules of Hanwha Q CELLS on an area of about 21,500m2 and built major facilities such as a solar substation and solar power access boards.

These facilities have the same effect as reducing CO2 emissions by 580 tco2 per year and providing electricity to about 400 households. Also, by blocking out solar heat, the temperature of the workplace can be reduced during the summer.

We hope the completion of the solar power plant will help Hanwha Defense take a step further as a company for sustainable development.

5. [Hanwha Group] Successfully completed the ’Hanwha PROUD.’ campaign

This is the story from the ’Hanwha Proud’ campaign, which is about overseas executives and employees who are proud to be Hanwha family members. The Group chose six stories of the applicants and screened them on the outdoor electronic sign-board of Times Square in New York. Let's meet Hanwha's proud moments together from all over the world of Hanwha members.

Twenty-five percent of the Group’s employees are from overseas. In order to internalize the value of the Group and promote self-esteem among overseas executives and employees in addition to expanding its global business, the Group conducted a ’Hanwha Proud’ campaign to invite photos and stories of proud moments in Hanwha.

As a result of the campaign, a total of 526 valuable stories were submitted from all over the world from 20 countries and 30 corporations in 11 companies.

The Times Square electronic billboards is a venue of publicity for global companies. The proud moments as a member of Hanwha were shown more than 230 times on July 5 and 6 at Times Square, where people around the world are watching.

The ’Hanwha Proud’ campaign was selected for the Bronze in the corporate communication category at the 2019 PR Awards Asia, which was organized by Campaign, a global communication magazine, and the pride as a member of Hanwha has doubled.

1. [Hanwha Group] Announced ’Leader Development Program’ at ATD 2019 ICE

The ATD 2019 International Conference & Exposition (ICE) is a world-renowned human resources development conference in which over 10,000 people from over 80 countries participate in human resource development. At this conference, Hanwha has attracted the attention of the world by announcing Hanwha’s unique leader development program.

This year, the Group not only participated in the ATD, but also presented ’Hanwha Leader Development Program’.

Although the presentation was made on the last day of ATD’s session, hundreds of talent developers from around the world gathered to learn about Hanwha Leader Development Program.

2. [Hanwha Group] Donated solar boats to Vietnam to collect floating garbage on the Mekong River

June 5 was World Environment Day. The Group held a meaningful event to solve environmental problems in Vietnam, a global forward base. A donation ceremony was held in Vình Long, in southern Vietnam, to build two vessels for collecting garbage and deliver them to local organizations.

Chairman Seung Youn Kim promised at the opening ceremony of Hanwha Aerospace’s Vietnam plant in December last year, “As a member of the Vietnamese community, Hanwha will continue to pay attention not only to its contribution through business, but also to environmental issues, which are a major hot topic worldwide.” The <Cleanup Mekong campaign> is the first result of solving Vietnamese environmental problems.

In order to raise awareness with the Vietnamese people of the importance of the environmental pollution problem of floating garbage in rivers and seas, the Group created and donated an eco-friendly solar-powered floating garbage collection vessel.

The boat donated by the Group is an eco-friendly boat that consists of solar panels and batteries and does not require any additional fuel. Hanwha Q CELL’s high-performance photovoltaic module Q.Peak was installed to improve energy efficiency and to collect floating waste by using a conveyor system. The solar boat goes on the Mekong River for 6-7 hours every day and picks up floating garbage. 280 kg per day per boat can be collected, and the two boats can handle 200 to 220 tonnes of floating waste annually.

The Mekong River is a place of life and a lifeline for the Vietnamese people. The Group has taken the first step in addressing climate change and environmental problems using solar energy here. We hope that these small efforts will become as vast as the Mekong River in Vietnam, the key global forward base of the Group.

3. [Hanwha Aerospace] Acquired EDAC specializing in aviation engine parts

In an effort to achieve its vision of becoming a ’global number one partner for the aircraft engine,’ Hanwha Aerospace acquired a 100 percent stake in EDAC, an aerospace parts company based in Connecticut USA, and held a contract ceremony to secure its business capability.

With this deal, Hanwha Aerospace is expected to expand its product portfolio and increase orders with global engine manufacturers such as Pratt & Whitney and GE in the USA.

EDAC is a manufacturer of Integrally Bladed Rotor (IBR) and cases for advanced aircraft engines, and Hanwha Aerospace hopes to strengthen its business competitiveness by securing high-end processing technology capabilities for various products.

In addition, Hanwha Aerospace is going to build a platform for expanding business in the USA as well as strengthening design, development and technological capabilities, which are essential elements for growing top-tier in the field of Risk & Revenue Sharing Partner (RSP).

Hanwha Aerospace plans to continue expanding its engine parts business with the acquisition of EDAC to achieve its vision of becoming a ’global number one partner for the aircraft engine.’

4. [Hanwha Group] Hosted the <Hanwha Classic 2019>, a classical music concert

The Group has hosted the Hanwha Classic and introduced the world-class classical musicians whom we don’t usually get to see in Korea. This year marks the seventh year, and despite its relatively short history, the Hanwha Classic has already become a renowned classical music concert in Korea. Hanwha Classic 2019 was held at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center for two days on July 22 and 23 and at the Art Hall of the Daejeon Arts Center on June 25.

The performance at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on June 22 featured Handel’s water music under the theme of “Homage to the earth,” including the song from the movie “Tous les matins du monde,” which honored Jordi Savall with the César Award for Best Music.

Performances on June 23 and 25th featured a program focused on ’vocal music’ that was more familiar to us. The La Capella Reial de Catalunya choir performed Fergolese’s “Stabat Water”, Handel’s “Dixit Dominus” accompaniment of Le Concert des Nation.

Hanwha Classic has invited world-class virtuosos who are rarely seen in Korea to perform, and lowered entry barriers to performances at low ticket prices, drawing expectations and praise from the audience who have visited the concert. This year’s <Jordi Savall and Le Concert des Nations> performance was also a special time for the audience.

1.[Hanwha Life] Held the 2019 Annual Awards Ceremony

Hanwha Life’s annual awards ceremony was held at KINTEX in Ilsan on May 17th. The annual event is to celebrate the award-winning FPs that have performed well throughout the year. The highlight of the ceremony, ’The 'Queen of the year,’ is considered a dream and goal for FPs. This year, a new queen has arrived.

The message of this year’s ceremony was “Dear My Life” featured respect and love. In addition to cheering for the efforts of the FPs, the message included love and sincerity of how much the company cares and thinks of the FPs.

About 800 FPs and sales managers who performed well last year were honored at this ceremony. As a global insurer, more than 30 people from overseas subsidiaries such as Vietnam, China, and Indonesia attended and pledged to take a bigger leap forward together.

Starting with the opening of the Seoul Plaza Hotel in 1976 and the opening of the Hanwha Resort in 1981, Hanwha Hotels & Resorts has established itself as a representative leisure and service company in Korea. Hanwha Hotels & Resorts integrated the hotel and resort business unit to cope with the recent upheaval of environmental changes and to strengthen its new business capabilities.

’Korea Fintech Week 2019’ which is the first fintech fair in Korea was held. Three of Hanwha’s financial affiliates participated in the event, and they had a meaningful time to announce Hanwha’s financial content and share the financial changes brought by fintech.

Hanwha Q CELLS participated in Intersolar Europe, Europe’s largest solar exhibition, held in Munich, Germany. In this exhibition, Hanwha Q CELLS has shown its position as a leading company that has achieved the largest market share in the major solar energy market in Europe!

Hanwha Q CELLS had set up the largest booth among exhibitors last year and this year.

At this exhibition, Hanwha Q CELLS displayed a series of high power modules such as the Q Peak Duo and the Q Plus Duo to solidify its position as a premium brand in the European solar market.

In addition, Hanwha Q CELLS introduced various solar installation solutions, residential energy storage solutions, and a new electric power retail business that supplies electricity directly to homes.

Hanwha Corporation’s “Flame Emblem” is the only domestic winner in the corporate graphic design category for the Astrid Awards 2019.

Hanwha Corporation’s “Flame emblem” has received high marks for creativity and content clarity among entries from about 500 companies in 15 countries around the world.

In particular, the emblem received great attention from the judges for its Korean color representation of the wonder and freedom of the moment when the flame bursts. 1. [Hanwha Life] Held 10th anniversary celebration and End of Fiscal Year Awards ceremony in Vietnam

Hanwha Life Insurance became the first Korean life insurer to enter Vietnam's insurance market in 2009, and had the fastest growth among life insurers in less than 10 years. To mark its 10th year in Vietnam, HLI held a commemorative event and a 2018 Vietnamese Corporate Annual Awards event in Danang on April 11.

The event, held at the Grand Ballroom of the Vinpearl Luxury Danang in Vietnam, was attended by about 300 employees, including Vice Chairman of Hanwha Life, Cha Nam-kyu, the Chairman of Hanwha Life Vietnam, Baek Jong-guk, as well as executives and FPs.

Members of the Vietnamese government, Phung Ngoc Khanh, the director of the Insurance Supervisory Authority, and Ngo Viet Trung, the deputy director of Insurance Supervisory Authority, were there to celebrate the 10th anniversary and the 2018 Annual Awards event.

The major research areas are five tasks in two categories: hydrogen production through water electrolysis and the production of eco-friendly plastics which are biodegradable.

The researchers include six professors, including Moon Il, an authority on chemistry and chemical engineering in Korea. All of the research projects will be based on eco-friendly technologies, and the researchers will build a foundation for the transition to a circular economy that reduces environmental pollution through research on eco-friendly technologies.

The industrial-academic research cooperation is expected to help strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic petrochemical industry. We will support Hanwha Chemical's great efforts considering the environment!

3. [Hanwha Systems] Aims for comprehensive operation for the fourth industrial revolution of the national defense

With the fourth industrial revolution, cooperation in future technology for advanced defense technology is more important than ever. Hanwha Systems and the Korea Military Academy have joined forces on defense AI and drone research.

Hanwha Systems signed an agreement with the Korea Military Academy for the first time as a defense company and strengthened its technological leadership in the fourth industrial revolution to advance national defense.

Under the agreement, Hanwha Systems and Korea Military Academy will develop new technologies for national defense by combining Hanwha Systems’ technology for defense IoT, artificial intelligence (AI), and drone unmanned systems, along with the Korea Military Academy’s specialized research infrastructure and defense know-how.

As part of these activities, Hanwha Systems plans to strengthen the industry-academic networks by carrying out mutual exchanges of researchers, and supporting cadet education by providing internships, exchanging technical information, and providing technical advice.

We expect that this business agreement will become an excellent example of collaboration between industry, academia and military for advanced national defense.

4. [Hanwha Life] Opened Hanwha Life Park, a new training center of Hanwha Life

Chairman Seung Youn Kim attended the opening ceremony of Hanwha Life Park, a new training center of Hanwha Life, located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, to encourage executives, employees, and FPs. In the future, about 20,000 employees of Hanwha Life and FP will have a comprehensive financial services education program. The visit marks Chairman Kim’s first visit to the business site this year, and he asked the attendees to enhance their competitiveness in the future by securing talented people and fostering them.

Hanwha Life Park offers training sessions for 600 people in 14 classrooms at the same time, and it has 200 rooms and facilities such as a soccer field, an indoor gym, and a sauna.

In his congratulatory speech, Chairman Kim said that the raising people properly rather than building a factory is the way to expand the value of entrepreneurship, and he asked for greater competitiveness by securing and nurturing talented people.

He also said that he believes Hanwha Life Park will become a source of change and innovation that makes Hanwha Group’s financial sector more hopeful, and he hope Hanwha Life Park will become a new driving force in Hanwha’s financial sector to spread the value of ’LIFEPLUS’ and nurture talented people who will lead the future.
