Chairman’s Message Commemorating
Hanwha’s 69th Anniversary

Dear Hanwha Family,

It is with great pleasure that I greet you all. As we celebrate Hanwha Group’s 69th anniversary, I would like to convey my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for doing your part to make Hanwha better amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, two long years after the COVID-19 pandemic began, we are living in a world in which the crisis has created a new normal. In order for us to overcome these difficulties, we must start thinking on another level. This means that we should be ready to embrace change and adapt our behaviors to usher in a brighter future.

Once again, we are witnessing the beginning of a paradigm shift. This time, however, our hearts are full of hope and expectations, not fear. This is because we know we have the type of DNA that turns crises into opportunities. From strong traditional players to new challengers, competition within the global market is growing fiercer every day. However, if we continue to innovate and evolve, we will be well positioned to lead this paradigm shift.

With that in mind, let's begin by rethinking the business structure that will lead us to this new paradigm.

Hanwha has been spearheading more dynamic changes during the COVID-19 crisis than any of its competitors. We have continued to drive powerful innovations to become pioneers in outer space, where possibilities are simply infinite. At the same time, we have continued to lead the low carbon energy sector in areas like solar power and green hydrogen. We have also developed digital solutions and new businesses that could redefine the future of finance.

By making bold investments for the future and by continually developing our capabilities, our businesses have become some of the most distinguished in their respective industries in a short period of time. Our future outlook has garnered the confidence of investors and recognition in the market. As a result, we’ve been rewarded with large investments. This would not have been possible without Hanwha employees, whose tireless work has taken our company to the next level. Moving forward, let’s take more daring steps toward change to meet the expectations of our customers and the market.

In addition, let’s speed up digital transformation across every aspect of our business.

Over the years, companies have become more flexible in how they operate. However, in the face of COVID-19, those efforts simply haven’t been enough. As the market has evolved, it has grown increasingly more digital. Global investment in information and communication technology has reached an all-time high, and the strengthening of IT capabilities has become an essential survival strategy for companies, as well as a standard of measuring success or failure in terms of evolution.

Hanwha began its journey toward digital transformation relatively early, but we still have a long way to go. From securing a competitive advantage in the industries of the future, to continuing to foster development in areas like manufacturing, sales and human resources, we must accelerate our digital transformation in all areas of business management. We must adopt a ‘digital-first’ approach that influences how we work and informs the direction of our business.

Lastly, we must become a sustainable company that goes beyond the demands of society.

As a global leader in the green energy sector and a responsible member of society with a 69-year history, Hanwha has been at the forefront of sustainability. We’ve taken this position based on eco-friendly management and our response to climate change. Over time, however, society’s expectations of businesses have drastically increased. As we look to become a company that continues to thrive for more than a century, we must go beyond simply satisfying society’s expectations and strive to become the standard bearer for sustainable management.

To this end, Hanwha Group and its affiliates launched ESG committees earlier this year. These committees must strengthen their individual roles and work together to support Hanwha’s businesses and ensure that sustainability is embraced throughout all operations.

Dear Hanwha Family, we’ve all been through so much during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, at long last, we seem to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope that every member of the Hanwha Family continues to find the strength to make it through these difficult times.

In just a few short days, Nuri, Korea’s first indigenous space launch vehicle (SLV), will be launched into space, loaded with Hanwha technologies and carrying the hopes of many. Just as Nuri’s highly anticipated journey will see it take off into the unknown, let us fearlessly begin our exciting journey toward a new frontier full of challenges, buoyed by our own hopes and with careful preparation.

Thank you.
