Hanwha Q CELLS Solar Modules to Power 15MW PV Power Plant of Developer Lark Energy in Suffolk, UK

May 2, 2014
  • PV specialist Hanwha Q CELLS and Lark Energy team up to provide 4,400 households with clean energy
  • The Ellough solar farm met the March 2014 ROC deadline UK likely to become the No. 1 European PV market in 2014

Hanwha Q CELLS, the international photovoltaic solutions provider with its headquarters in Germany, today announced the supply of more than 58,000 modules of its Q.PRO-G3 series for a 15 MW solar farm near the U.K. east coast. The company has teamed up with U.K.’s Lark Energy who developed the so called “Ellough” power plant in the English eastern county of Suffolk. “We decided to use the Q CELLS Q.PRO-G3 modules, because Hanwha Q CELLS delivers high yields, premium quality and financial stability,” said Paul Adams, Lark Energy’s Deputy Managing Director. The British solar firm focuses on financing, developing and installing large scale, commercial solar projects. Lark Energy’s sister company Deepings Building & Plumbing Supplies supplied the modules, inverters and cables and Armstrong Energy arranged the finance for the project at very short notice. After the solar module’s successful supply, installation and connection, the solar farm meets the country’s March 2014 ROC(Renewable Obligation Certificate) deadline. The 15 MW plant is expected to provide clean solar power for around 4,400 local households while saving around 10,400 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The delivery of the panels was completed in March. The financial terms of the supply agreement were not disclosed.

“The UK is likely to become the No. 1 European PV market in 2014 and British customers increasingly value premium quality products securing reliable and long-term yields,” said Hanwha Q CELLS' director of sales for UK, Ireland and Scandinavia, Jonathan Goose. “In this context we are glad to supply our “Engineered in Germany” solar modules for yet another PV project in the country and to contribute to the government’s aim of making solar energy central to the country’s renewable energy expansion.” In March the NPD Solarbuzz market researcher raised its 2014 forecast for the UK market from 2.27 to 2.5 GW of new PV capacity. The UK Ministry of Energy and Climate Change published its new solar strategy in April.
