Hanwha unveiled a unified maritime defense showcase at the 2025 International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX) 2025, marking the first time its three defense companies have presented together. The exhibition brought together Hanwha Ocean's advanced shipbuilding and submarine expertise, Hanwha Systems' combat management systems and unmanned platforms, and Hanwha Aerospace's lithium-ion energy storage systems. This collaboration signals Hanwha’s strategic ambition to become a global total defense solutions provider by delivering integrated and mission-ready technologies for modern naval operations.

Hanwha Ocean exhibited 17 types of next-generation unmanned ships, surface ships, and submarines that feature cutting-edge technologies such as electric propulsion systems, integrated masts, stealth hull designs that minimize acoustic tracking, and rim-driven silent propulsion systems.

Among Hanwha Ocean’s products, the company highlighted a 3,600-ton class submarine as the world’s first to simultaneously feature an air independent propulsion (AIP) system and lithium-ion batteries. With these features, the submarine achieved the best underwater endurance among current diesel-powered submarines, making it more globally competitive. Additionally, Hanwha Ocean built on its growing strength in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) by introducing its Total Operation & Maintenance Management System (TOMMS), a customized solution for managing a vessel's full life cycle. These technologies underscore Hanwha’s commitment to offering tailored designs and shipbuilding services.

Hanwha Ocean also announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the exhibition with two Polish shipyards: the state-run PGZ SW and the privately operated Nauta Shipyard. The MoU covers cooperation in shipbuilding and maintenance and through it, Hanwha aims to jointly develop and maintain submarines in Poland. It also lays the groundwork for Hanwha’s potential future participation in the ORKA submarine project, which aims to field a new class of multipurpose submarines capable of launching cruise missiles with AIP within the Polish Navy.

Hanwha Systems also showcased its new combat unmanned surface vessel (USV) for the first time, as well as next-generation naval consoles and intelligent combat management systems (CMS). Incorporating technologies from Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Aerospace, the USV is designed to minimize crew risk and support a broader range of naval operations. Notably, it integrates swarm operator technology, autonomous navigation with wave-avoidance capabilities, and integrated operation technology for manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) based on low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication. These offerings showcase Hanwha’s ability to build a network of connected maritime operations with unmanned systems.

Hanwha Aerospace exhibited lithium-ion energy storage systems (ESS) and naval propulsion and power generation packages, emphasizing high-density energy storage technologies that enhance operational submarine capabilities and endurance.

Hanwha’s presence at MADEX 2025 reflects its continued investment in integrated defense technologies and its commitment to expanding strategic partnerships across global naval markets.
