Hanwha Q CELLS supports the “Greener Davos” initiative by the municipality of Davos and the World Economic Forum by sponsoring its high efficiency Q.PEAK 275 Wp modules for a 340 kWp PV solar system on the rooftop of the Davos Congress Center and the adjoining swimming pool “eau-lá-lá”. The installation of the system’s first section, consisting of around 640 modules with a maximum output of 175 kWp, has now been completed on the rooftop of the Davos Congress Center.
Alois Zwinggi, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum said: “The Q CELLS modules will help us lower the environmental impact of the annual meeting by creating enough energy to save more than 10 tons of CO2 emissions each year – a great step towards a carbon neutral future.”
The sponsoring project underlines the dedication of Hanwha Q CELLS´ parent company and Korean Top-Ten business enterprise Hanwha Group to making our world more sustainable and addressing the combined challenges of a dynamic economy, climate change and the depletion of our worldwide energy resources.
“Davos and the World Economic Forum are the preeminent stages for advancing sustainability issues among the world’s business, political and academic leaders”, says Ki-Joon Hong, vice chairman and chief executive of Hanwha Chemical, representing Hanwha Group. “The solar system on the rooftop of the Davos Congress Center demonstrates sustainability in action and underlines Hanwha´s commitment to promoting solar energy as the most reliable energy source on earth.”
“Hanwha supports our effort for a “Greener Davos”. This generous sponsorship helps Davos to continue practising a sustainable and result-oriented energy policy”, said Tarzisius Caviezel, Mayor of Davos.
The project was planned and implemented by EPC Amstein + Walthert AG, who began work in January 2013 when the municipality of Davos and the World Economic Forum decided to take another step towards a “Greener Davos”. The installation of the modules was completed just before the first snowfall in November 2013. Right after the Q CELLS modules had been delivered, a helicopter took them to the rooftop of the Davos Congress Center and within another two days all modules had been installed and wired to the grid. The second section of the 340 kWp PV system will be installed on the rooftop of the Davos indoor swimming pool “eau-lá-lá”.
