- The company was recognized for its high level of production and consistent delivery of advanced engine parts to Rolls-Royce.
- Hanwha Aerospace continues to reinforce its top-tier position in the global aircraft engine market.
On June 20, President and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace Hyun-woo Shin announced that the company had received the 2022 Trusted to Deliver Excellence Award from Rolls-Royce, a U.K.-based aircraft engine manufacturer established in 1884 and one of the top three engine makers in the world.
The award was given to Hanwha Aerospace at the 2022 Rolls-Royce Global Aerospace Supplier Conference held last month in the United Kingdom. Rolls-Royce bestows this honor to a select number of global business partners who have demonstrated a high level of consistent reliability and on-time delivery performance throughout the year. “Last year, we successfully completed the development and initial supply of core parts for Rolls-Royce’s cutting-edge Trent engines,” explained Hanwha Aerospace. “Additionally, we were able to flawlessly provide timely delivery of case parts that demand strict quality control standards, which was a decisive factor in winning the award.”
Executives at Rolls-Royce referenced the strong partnership between the two companies. “I am delighted that the close collaboration between Hanwha Aerospace and Rolls-Royce’s Civil Aerospace Turbine business division has come to fruition,“ said Sebastian Resch, Operations Director and Chief Operating Officer for Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce. “Hanwha Aerospace is well deserving of the award given its performance in the development and timely delivery of high-level engine parts.”
Warrick Matthews, Chief Procurement Officer for Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, stated “Hanwha Aerospace consistently demonstrates high performance in quality and delivery, placing them among our top partners.”
“We received the Best Supplier Award in 2018 and the world’s first Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) Quality Certification¹ in 2020 from Rolls-Royce,” said Hyung-wook Nam, head of Hanwha Aerospace’s Changwon plant who attended the awards ceremony. “This is another remarkable achievement following our third consecutive year being selected as a member of the High Performing Supplier Group (HPSG) since 2019.”

This certification authorizes Hanwha Aerospace to perform PPAP inspections and approve the inspected engines for mass production.|
“This demonstrates that Hanwha Aerospace has been recognized for its competitiveness by Rolls-Royce, a company itself renowned in the global aerospace market for maintaining the highest level of quality and strict delivery management,” Nam continued. He emphasized the efforts made by all employees at Hanwha Aerospace. “This is the result of the dedication of all of our talented executives and employees committed to excellent customer support and creating the industry’s highest quality system,” Nam said.
Hanwha Aerospace’s business relationship with Rolls-Royce began in 1984, when the company began providing Rolls-Royce with military engine-repair and depot maintenance services. The cooperative partnership has strengthened since Hanwha Aerospace began manufacturing key engine parts such as cases and modules for various Rolls-Royce engines, including the Trent series, the most advanced civil aircraft engines built by Rolls-Royce.
In 2015, the company signed a deal with Pratt & Whitney (P&W) to become a risk and revenue sharing partner (RSP) in the manufacturing of the PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ (GTF) engine, the latest aircraft engine. Since then, Hanwha Aerospace has continued its investments and built partnerships with the world’s three largest aircraft engine makers — Pratt & Whitney (P&W) and General Electric (GE) in the U.S. and Rolls-Royce in the U.K. Hanwha Aerospace is maintaining its trajectory to become the foremost top-tier partner in the global aircraft engine market.
Hanwha Aerospace began operations in 1977, producing aircraft engines and film cameras. Since then, it has aggressively invested in R&D to grow into a major presence within the aircraft/gas turbine engine industry. Hanwha Aerospace’s dramatic evolution was made possible by the successful development of industry leading and proprietary technologies that give it the competitive edge needed to succeed around the world. In addition to technological advancement, Hanwha Aerospace also focuses on developing industry expertise and the ability to comprehensively address changing market demands as well as the ability to anticipate future market shifts.
