Hanwha Corporation, Hanwha Solutions, and Hanwha Aerospace were honored for their response to climate change at the 2023 CDP Korea Awards on March 13. All three companies received CDP scores of A-minus, indicating leadership. CDP Korea hosts the CDP Korea Awards every year to honor Korean companies that excel on climate change response and water security.
Hanwha Solutions made it into the Carbon Management Honors Club, which is reserved for the top five companies if they score A-minus or higher and substantiate their answers through third-party verification. All three companies received Carbon Management Sector Honors in recognition of the leadership they showed on climate change — Hanwha Solutions in the raw materials sector, and Hanwha Corporation and Hanwha Aerospace in the industrial materials sector.
Hanwha Solutions, which scored an A-minus on climate change for three consecutive years, also won an Excellence Award for its inaugural disclosure on water security. After continually upgrading its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management activities for years, the company is proud to gain recognition for effective water resources management.
Hanwha Corporation replaced its old facilities with highly energy-efficient facilities and introduced innovative technologies in the manufacturing process. For example, it started converting waste heat energy into steam energy. This year the company also joined K-RE100, a Korean movement inspired by the global RE-100 initiative, and pledged to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2040.
Hanwha Aerospace expanded its activities in eco-friendly business areas, such as the development of electric propulsion systems and energy storage systems (ESS). The company also took steps to reduce GHG emissions and improve energy efficiency — for example, by reviewing emissions at all its work sites in Korea and starting an energy efficiency task force.
CDP is an international not-for-profit charity that evaluates companies’ transparency on climate change, water security, and deforestation. Along with the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), CDP scores are among the most trusted and globally recognized measures of sustainability, and over 23,000 companies took part in the reporting last year.
